Two opposed photoshoots.
First this smoking vintage twist of the 20s with the transparency of the dress and fringes.
I wasn't really into posing with a fag , because I'm a non smoking person and-proud-to-be.
But I thought, well why not, we were doing these pictures for my blog also and yes I wanted to talked to you about this habit people hold.
To be social, I couldn't talk about other countries than France once again: so my point of view may be narrowed, you have to smoke.
Why? As it's always seen really bad on ads, and in front of your doctor !
Well, I supposed people are a bit too much of a coward sometimes, and instead of stepping out the line they prefer to follow the lead.
The lead of whom? Of people who weren't even smoking person, perhaps in the first place !
But to get a pause break in your work, you can't say "oh I'm just breaking for 5-10min doing nothing, just staying in or going out to breathe some fresh air." No, that you can't.
But, to say I'm breaking in for few min, just to have a fag, that is clearly understable in society.
So WTF, how does that work ? How have we gone from struggling of to have a clean life , with foods and a nice place to live and not die too young, to keep this weapon gently settled between us.
I don't understand. And what I hardly even understand is that you cannot integrate yourself easily into a bunch of people if they smoke and you don't. Some will say, yes I can, but let's be honest ... It's weird no? Standing here, leaving your arms leaning there, while they seem to really do something.
Anyway, that's too long for me to chat about it deeper but that's clearly my point of view.

Second.
We always hear: eat your greens. 5 a day. Etc.
But when one does so , they get terribly lectured.
I mean, who knows a vegan or vegetarian, who hasn't been into some kind of "talks" with people when they say they are. And it always ends meanful.
My fiancée is a vege and always has those talks with people , even me sometimes I act like a curious who asks for things , even I know she eats just like me apart from meat.
So it's stupid, because she and vege & vegan are just using much more capacity of food , without restraining themselves like people used to, by eating at each meal : meat/potatoes or pasta/ fake vegetables like peas.
So when have we stopped to deny real food? Those which grows naturally, and without any transformation ?
I mean, last month I was sick and God I was so happy to eat real food, a real apple, or banana when I could.

So this week after the International non-eating meat Day and Happiness Day (yes it does exist!) I spread consciousness to people who acts or acted like me once, and know it's hard when you are not in a row.
Love,
Lorna

  3. I have always wondered why it is ok for smokers to take many breaks, but it is not ok for me to take 10 to get clean, fresh air. It does not seem fair, but that is how it is!

  5. I love your pictures Lorna! I'm a non smoker too. Actually, I'm really lucky because I live in California and culturally smoking is really frowned upon. Generally I think it's stupid when people give other people a hard time for living their lifestyle such as non-vegans giving vegans a hard time about being vegans or even vice versa but smokers do bother me because if you are standing next to them or walking past them you are get all their second-hand smoke. Anyhow, it's funny that the picture of you holding the cigarette didn't even phase me even though smoking isn't big here... I think it's because there was so much smoking going on in the 20's - 50's, it just seemed to go with your pictures :) Also, I love your banner photo... retro style and teacups... my favorite! <3

  6. both photoshoots are amazing, honestly i would not have guessed your a non smoker from those photos you look amazing and so relaxed ;) well i´m a smoker but since it has become so really expensive i reduced smoking a lot, know i just smoke when i actually feeling like okay i´m really going to enjoy it, haha that may sound silly but i mean when you are a smoker you often just do it when you are bored or waiting for something/ someone and thats silly, for me it´s now more like having a good glass of wine, which is also something you should only have when you really want to enjoy it and not because you don´t know anything else to do.
The link for the share - in- style will be up on Saturday the 29th of march in the morning on sacramento´s (www.mispapelicos.com) rosy´s (http://www.sewingadicta.com) and my own blog (www.maryloucinnamon) you only have to link up on the end of the post on this day and it will be seen on all pages ;)

  8. You have a lovely week too Lorna....I adore this half dress-cardigan piece, it is so beautiful!! I love things like that. And your shoes are so sweet :) Both sets of pictures are stunning. I can understand you...I do not smoke & it sometimes seems strange to others when I say I don't smoke as they do & I can't sit there while they smoke as I find it horrible. But, there are so many places where people almost expect you to be a smoker. I eat meat as well, but not as much as I used to, very little now. But, society does always seem to want to tell you what you should do and not do, but I say do as you feel as long as you're not hurting anyone around you. You are really a gorgeous gal....so stunning!! Have a wonderful week. Love from Scotland Xxx

  11. Each of these photo shoots is powerful, engaging and thoroughly fantastic. I especially like the second. It feels fresh and modern, and very much something one might see in a cutting edge, yet still very approachable, magazine. You've raised excellent points here, both with what you wrote and in these photos themselves.

  12. Recreating a smoking photo is fine if it is from the days of old hollywood where most people smoked. But now people know the risks and less people do it, I have little sympathy for smokers (even though some of my friends are smokers)

  14. These photos are lovely. Especially all that beautiful draping fringe!

I agree that having a smoke break seems fine by most people, but a fresh air break is unheard of. Just not right - I'd love a fresh air break.

  18. Great post, not only is your outfit gorgeous but you have some great points on not following certain societal habits just because a lot of other people do it... Sometimes you have to reflect on your actions and decide on whether or not it is the right thing to-- and eating your greens would be definitely one good thing :P

  21. I love your vintage photos because all of them look so good! It reminds me of 1920s vibe :) I have my friend who's a vege too but I can't eat pure veggie though since I tend to hungry all the time lol However, every dish I eat, it consists of veggie all the time :) Because I'm trying to eat less meat but more to vegetables and fruits x

  25. Beautiful photos!
Most of my friends smoke, but I don't. They don't have a problem with me not smoking, but sometimes I have a problem with them smoking because the smoke hurts my eyes and my clothes smells. I really don't see anything good about smoking, but if someone wants to smoke I won't stop him :D

  28. I am on the same page as you..especially on the smoking topic. I don't smoke and have never smoked a cig, and I had no problems regarding that when I lived in California, but in Japan, smoking is very popular and a lot of the people I work with smoke all the time. I asked someone why they smoke, and their reply was 'its just something to do' ... anyways, I appreciate you stopping by my blog and leaving a sweet comment. I really enjoyed your pictures too!

  29. Incredibly gorgeous photos and outfit! You are a bombshell :-) I'm a non-smoker too and completely agree with you on it. I don't judge those that do...I have friends that do, but to me it's just such a stinky habit and wreaks havoc on your skin and breath, so I stay away.

  30. I agree with you 100% on the smoking!! It's bizarre isn't it, the going outside being ok for smokers and not everyone else. Also in agreement on the vegetables too. I'm not vegetarian but I do not eat much meat or require it for my dinner. My husband is the same!

  47. I'd always like a 10 min read-a-book break but to be honest I do kind of get those little breaks from chatting to co-workers. It is still funny how that habit of the smoking break sticks around. It wouldnt work for any other habit - like drinking. Sorry! Just having a shot... Just one of those quirks of society.
